Mary's Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was white as snow
But Mary’s lamb wandered off
To where she did not know
Exploring countries far and wide
The wandering lamb did go
And among an unsavory fold
She took herself a beau
The beau of Mary’s lamb seemed sweet
And gentle his veneer
But soon his coat of wool fell off
And his sharp teeth appeared
The little lamb fled that land
For the safety of the wood
But she found no shelter safe for rest
Only tears had she for food
Mary searched for her little lamb
On the hills and in the dales
While Mary was still far from home
There rose a mighty gale
Meanwhile, the lamb in the woods
Dined on berries and dry leaves
But nothing ever satisfied
Or her hunger eased
And the lamb’s white fleece was stained
When she wandered in the mire
And her coat was ripped and torn
When she was arrested by some briars
The wind whipped Mary’s hat from her head
The rain soaked her to the bone
But Mary refused to find shelter
‘Till her lamb was safely home
The little lamb could not free her coat
From the thorny vine
Lighting crashed and thunder roared
As she looked past the dancing pines
The darkness fell on Mary so
Her way she could not see
Lighting flashed; a lion roared
And fell Mary to her knees
The little lamb heard the lion’s roar
And fear chilled her, all alone
Against a lion there’s no hope
She wished only to be home
Above the thunder and the storm
Above the wind and rain
The lion’s roar heard above it all
Mary knew her lamb was slain
That’s when Mary saw the light
In the lion’s face
The beast was roaring at the storm
The lion, full of grace
The rain and wind obeyed his roar
The clouds went in retreat
The yellow sun shined once more
The lion said, “To your feet,”
In an instant Mary stood
With the lion, in the trees
The lamb was scared and shouted out
While struggling to get free
“Come here to me little lamb,
“I make all things new,”
The briars gone; the lamb released
And she to the lion flew
Still the lamb’s coat was torn
And darkened by the mud
The little lamb lowered her eyes
Ashamed by what she’d done
The lion said, “Cover your ears,”
And this shout shook the earth
The lamb’s damaged coat was replaced
With fur whiter than at birth
“But how?” the lamb asked the lion
“I became a lamb like you
“For the many I suffered and died
So, they could be renewed,”
So, Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece made white as snow
And everywhere the lion went
Mary and her lamb were sure to go
